?????????? Ask! Believe! Receive! Yes, before anyone read “The Secret” or even knew there was a secret, I was hooked on motivation. I mean who wouldn’t’ t be? It just feels so DAMN GOOD! You know the feeling…the rush…someone is going to give you ALL THE ANSWERS. As human beings we are wired for this longing to be satisfied with some great answer to life. Over and over again we put it in the hands of other people who are claiming to have “all those answers.”

If someone were to have “all the answers” well that would be super demotivating. Wait, you mean there’s no more information, innovation, or discovery coming down the pike??

In my 20’s I participated in various “empowerment” seminars that were just what I needed at that tender time of my life. At over 350 lbs and unsure of who I was, I needed that push to believe something else was possible. What did I discover a decade later and minus the weight of a 7th grader? That inside the glazed over eyes of motivational “oomph,”  lies a mild avoidance of the full human experience. I found MORE authentic joy experienced when I allow myself to just be with what is happening. Yes I confess, I am not cheery 100% of the time. I know, so last century of me.

Let me tell you a story…

Recently a dear friend of mine had her home broken into, credit cards stolen, fraudulent purchases, and more. She is one of the most positive amazing people I know. When I asked how she was, just moments into the throws of dealing with it, she was already directing herself to see lessons, messages and feel better. I invited her to be present to the human experience; to allow herself to be angry and feel upset even if for a short amount of time. I gave her permission to be a human being not a scrolling motivational quote pressured to put her positive face on for the world to see. She replied “Thank you for saying that, it’s very full of wisdom and makes me feel good. Love you.”

We must acknowledge that our joy and our sorrow are part of the same energy. This is the cue for one of my favorite quotes from Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.

Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”

But I say unto you, they are inseparable.

Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Happy winner.I started Sound Change more as a RESPONSE to the overwhelming amount of people flooding the Internet telling you to throw caution to the wind, and taking your money to do so. I LOVE PEOPLE. I truly do. I am NOT saying not to take risks or believe in your dreams. I am saying STOP and THINK just a TEENY BIT (not over think, just get conscious). Get off the aha moment motivation train and get on the authentic human happiness train. Stop trading in a life of authentic happiness for a moment of feel good. Gather those feel good moments, and yes offer gratitude, stay positive, and all of that. But when life occurs, allow yourself to just be with what is happening. Even if just for a minute! To be authentically human is to feel joy, sadness, anger, excitement, disappointment, and to GRANT YOURSELF permission to do so. You know the moderation speech so I won’t give it to you. (i.e. if you are letting the anger smash your neighbor’s mailbox, you might want to talk to someone…)

So what does it mean to be authentic about career change?

New careerYou can love what you do but you can’t love it every second. This is just not human. Loving what you do does not mean becoming exempt from dealing with exasperating people, dishonest vendors, or people who are just out to make money off of your unawareness. Loving what you do means that DESPITE the frustration that will normally occur in the course of the human experience, you STILL WANT TO DO IT.

Career change impacts you at every level – emotionally, financially, and mentally. It affects your relationships, your moods, your future, and your retirement. It is not a conversation to be entered into lightly, but it still can be FUN!

So what did I do this past weekend? I made three vision boards. Yes, because I believe that envisioning is a PART of living my passion. The rest than requires me to swiftly get off my butt and make stuff happen. I believe this for every human being. I want every person on the planet to be able to say at the end of their life that they did everything they could to be who they were meant to be. But I don’t have all the answers either. I mean anyone with 100 bucks, two hands, and about an hour can put up a website and share their views. It’s America people.
